In Botswana the time zones are messed up. At 9:00 PM in Seattle it is 6:00 AM in Botswana. Botswana is in the southern hemisphere. When you flush the toilet in the northern hemisphere, the water swirls counter-clockwise. When you flush the toilet in the southern hemisphere, the water swirls clockwise. Therefore, if you flush the toilet in Botswana, the water swirls clockwise. The seasons are different too. They are opposite; it is fall in seattle but right now it is spring in Botswana.

  1. Hi Elliot, I'm excited to know that you are going to be in Botswana, where Uncle Ash and I spent almost 5 years. I hope you'll post pictures and write about what you do and what you think about all that you do! Will you attend school there? I hope your family will find time to go to the Okavango. Once you've seen animals in their wild homes, you may find that going to zoos makes you feel a bit sad for the animals that are cooped up. However, zoos are doing a good job of keeping some threatened species from extinction.
Have a good flight (even though it will seem very long) and make up your mind to find interesting all the cultural differences that you will experience. We really liked the people we came to know in Botswana. I hope you will, too!
    Bye for now.
    Love, Aunt Trish

  3. Hi Elliot if the water swirls clockwise? does that mean that the gravitational field in Botswana is weaker than in Seattle?

When you play baseball, will a curve ball in Botswana break more than in Seattle?

Keep up the blogs and write about any new experiences and give Wiley and Mitchell a big hug from us.

  4. Hi Elliot,
I think you and Mitchell will have a wonderful time in Gabarone. I wish I could come visit and take you to a movie. Have your Dad see if he can rent the movie, "The Gods Must Be Crazy". It takes place in the Kalahari Desert and is very funny. There's also a sequel but I'm not sure of the name. Love, Gramma E
